National Student Survey

Introduction to National Student Survey (NSS);

The National Student Survey (NSS) is a nationally recognized annual survey of final year undergraduates in the UK. The NSS asks final year students to reflect back on their time at Grafton College, to give a view of their experience to assist other students thinking about where they may like to study.
The survey is administered by Ipsos MORI, an independent market research agency, so answers remain anonymous at all times.

 a.       What is it for

         NSS results are published to help prospective students to make study choices. Colleges, Universities and students' unions also use feedback to see how they can improve the student learning experience.  

b.      Who is eligible

       All final-year HND students at Grafton College.

c.       When it needs to be completed

        The 2018 will open early in the first week of February 2018 for Grafton College students.

d.      Who runs it

        The survey is administered by Ipsos MORI, an independent market research agency. Participants and their responses remain anonymous at all times.

e.      Where will the results be published

        Every year, the data is made publicly available on the Unistats website. 

f.        What is involved

        There are 27 core questions that cover areas such as teaching, learning resources and the student voice. You will also be asked whether, overall, you are satisfied with the quality of your course. After that, you have the opportunity to provide comments.

 a.       More Personal Support

You said… you valued the academic support you received and also wanted more specialist advice and quicker access to wellbeing, counselling services and career advisory.

So we… started a dedicated career advisory service called GRACE ( Grafton Recognition for Aims, Careers and Employability) in 2017 and appointed 2 dedicated career advisors.

b.      Better learning resources

You said… you want Grafton College to have top quality IT and Library resources including technology, study spaces and support. 

So we… created additional IT Laboratories on Second and Third floors with extra PCs and shifted the library on Second Floor for your convenience. 

c.       More employment opportunities

You said… you want help finding part-time work and preparing for graduate employment.

So we… provided an on-campus Employment & Recruitment Service and more opportunities to gain support and experience including introducing our employability framework (CREATE) and inviting industry professionals and guest speakers to classrooms. We also arranged for you to attend external events on skills and employability.

d.      Better Communication 

 You said… you want a simple way to hear the latest news and provide your own feedback.

So we… developed new channels that let you do just that through Student Staff Liaison Committee, Newsletters etc,.

e.      News and updates

You said… you want to be notified of important College information.

So we… provided all changes and important details in the Moodle and on College website.

 As a small thank you for your time, Grafton College will give all students who complete the online survey the chance to participate in a luck draw for free gist vouchers. Take a look at what’s available.

Prizes will be decided on the basis of a draw. Only eligibility criteria is participation in the survey, the draw will happen on 01 May 2018 once the survey is closed.

 In 2017, The survey canvassed the opinions of about 300,000 students cross the country, so it is a pretty comprehensive exercise.

The University of Buckingham, the Royal Veterinary College, and the University of St Andrews all tie for first place with a 94 per cent approval rating. Fourth place is taken by Harper Adams University (93 per cent), with Loughborough University, the London Institute of Banking and Finance and St Mary's University College, Belfast in joint fifth (92 per cent).
